The Maryland State Library Agency: A View for the Future Morgan Miller, Maryland State Librarian Ms. Miller will speak on the achievements of the Maryland State Library Agency and her vision for the future of Maryland libraries.
Preserving Freedom: Librarians as Guardians Against Censorship Lisa Varga, Library Journal 2024 Librarian of the Year Ms. Varga is the immediate past chair of the Virginia Beach Public Library Board, and serves on the American Library Association Intellectual Freedom Committee. She is a member of the International Council of Library Association Executives and the Virginia Society of Association Executives. Varga is also a member of the ALA Policy Corps, focused on the Unite Against Book Bans campaign. She has presented locally and nationally on a variety of topics.
Democracy and Me : A Growing GuideRohini Gupta, Adult Learning and Innovation Specialist, Howard County Library Nancy Targett, Instructor and Research Specialist, Howard County Library Democracy is strongest when every voice is heard, and libraries play a key role in fostering civic engagement and ensuring access to essential resources. In this presentation, we’ll explore tools that libraries can use to enhance civic engagement through a variety of programs, including intergenerational initiatives. Learn how to design interactive programs that may incorporate elements of history, literature, the arts, or hands-on activities. Discover how your library can help plant the seeds of democracy and equity in your community.
